Upper Mayne lane closures start 5 October, the A13 through Vange and Pitsea is 40mph to 31 October, and Cranfield Park Road shuts. Every closure, dated.
Basildon borough sits between two of the busiest A-roads in Essex, and neither of them belongs to the council you pay council tax to. The A127 and A13 are Essex County Council’s; the streets are largely Essex County Council’s too. Basildon Borough Council runs the car parks. That split is why finding out what is shut can be harder here than it should be, so this page pulls the current Basildon roadworks picture together in one place, and sets out the parking tariffs and the bus gates that catch people out all year round.
Everything below was read from the statutory notices and the operators’ own records on Saturday 3 October 2026. Updated Sunday 4 October: Basildon Council’s lane closure programme for Upper Mayne, Broadmayne, Southernhay, East Mayne and South Mayne added.
Four things to plan around
-
Lane closures on Basildon’s main distributor roads start on Monday 5 October, on Upper Mayne, then move to Broadmayne, Southernhay, East Mayne and South Mayne until 13 November for tree and verge work. Dates below.
-
The A13 is 40mph through Vange and Pitsea until the end of October. A temporary 40mph limit has covered 4,645 metres of the A13 Vange Bypass and Pitsea Bypass in both directions, from the Five Bells roundabout on-slip to the A13 underpass, since Thursday 1 October. The notice allows 31 days, which runs to Saturday 31 October. Details below.
- Cranfield Park Road in Wickford shuts at the A127 end from Monday 5 October for five days, and Appletree Way in Wickford closes for two days the same Monday.
- Long Riding in Barstable is advertised to close for 12 days from Monday 12 October, 670 metres from South Riding up to the bus gate, for carriageway patching.
Beambridge in Pitsea, Coxes Farm Road and Tye Common Road were all due to reopen by Friday 2 October, the last day each of their notices allowed.
What is closed in the borough over the next fortnight
These are the temporary closures in Basildon borough running now or starting by Saturday 17 October, taken from the statutory notices published on the public notice portal. The “due to end” column is the last scheduled day, worked out from the start date and the number of days each notice allows.
| Road | Area | From | Due to end | Works by, and why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Footpath 23 (660 metres from Frithwood Lane) | Billericay | 1 October | 1 April 2027 | Development works, fenced alternative route kept inside the site |
| Appletree Way | Wickford | 5 October | 6 October | Openreach, pole replacement, no alternative route |
| Cranfield Park Road | Wickford | 5 October | 9 October | Essex and Suffolk Water, replacement works |
| Wickford Avenue at Pitsea Road | Pitsea | 7 October | 8 October | Essex County Council, sign post replacement, one night, 19:00 to 04:00 |
| Pitsea Road | Pitsea | 8 October | 9 October | Essex County Council, sign post replacement, one night, 19:00 to 04:00 |
| Rosebay Avenue | Billericay | 12 October | 12 October | Anglian Water, manhole cover and frame replacement |
| Wickford Avenue at Steeplehall | Pitsea | 12 October | 16 October | Essex County Council, carriageway patching |
| Long Riding | Barstable | 12 October | 23 October | Essex County Council, carriageway patching, advertised as an intended order |
| Castledon Road | Wickford | 15 October | 15 October | Openreach, new connection works |
Four to plan around.
- Cranfield Park Road in Wickford closes at the A127 end, 25 metres north of the junction, for five days from 5 October while Essex and Suffolk Water does replacement work. The signed route out is the A127, A1245, A129 and A132.
- Wickford Avenue in Pitsea is hit three times in ten days. A 40 metre stretch at the Pitsea Road junction closes for the night of 7 October, and Pitsea Road itself closes the following night, both 19:00 to 04:00 for sign post replacement. Then a separate 275 metre stretch of Wickford Avenue, from the Steeplehall junction south east, closes for five days from 12 October for carriageway patching, with the way round signed via Pitsea Road, the B1474 and Rectory Road.
- Long Riding is the longest closure in the fortnight. Essex County Council advertised on 24 September that it intends to close 670 metres of Long Riding, Barstable, from South Riding north west to the bus gate, for 12 days from 12 October under permit EP201EH2406149. The signed way round is Church Road, Broadmayne, Southernhay, Great Oaks, Linkway and back via Mopples Roundabout and Timberlog Lane (public notice portal, 24 September).
- Castledon Road in Wickford shuts for a day on 15 October, 430 metres from Elizabeth Drive, for an Openreach connection, signed via School Road, Downham Road, Church Road and London Road.
Lane closures on the Maynes, 5 October to 13 November
Basildon Council is cutting back trees and self-seeded growth and sweeping its main routes, with lane closures while crews work. Its schedule (Basildon Council, 2 October):
- Upper Mayne: B&Q roundabout to Roundacre, 5 to 8 October; both Roundacre roundabouts, 9 October; Wash Road to B&Q roundabout, 12 and 13 October
- Broadmayne: Ghyllgrove to Timberlog Lane roundabout, 14 to 16 October; Timberlog Lane roundabout to East Mayne, 19 and 20 October; Timberlog Lane roundabout to the town centre, 21 to 23 October
- Southernhay: central reservation, full length, 27 to 29 October
- East Mayne: full length, 2 to 6 November
- South Mayne: full length, 9 to 13 November
No working hours are published. Broadmayne and Southernhay are also on the signed diversion for the Long Riding closure, which runs 12 to 23 October. More in our story on the programme.
What has come off the list since 23 September
Each of these had reached the last day its notice allowed by Friday 2 October, so they have come out of the table:
- Beambridge in Pitsea, carriageway patching, 21 September to 2 October
- the A13 Vange Bypass overnight closure on 25 September, and its two slip roads
- Southend Road in Great Burstead on 24 September, and Bridgecote Lane in Noak Bridge
- Coxes Farm Road, 28 to 30 September, and Tye Common Road and Wiggins Lane in Billericay, 1 and 2 October
Still one we cannot pin down. The Falkenham End closure in Fryerns appears again in the notice bundle published on 1 October, still giving its start as 27 June 2026, a date before the order took effect on 24 September. We cannot say when that Openreach duct laying will happen, so it stays out of the table (public notice portal, 1 October).
Further ahead: the second half of October
These were all advertised as orders Essex County Council intends to make, so the dates can still move:
- A13 Vange Bypass, eastbound only, night closures. About 2,785 metres from the Thurrock boundary, plus the 380 metre Five Bells slip road to Southend Road westbound, for installing and removing MUON detector units. The notice lists 19 October (21:00 to 05:00), then 22 to 24 October, then 10 to 13 November, with the diversion via the A176, A1321 and A132 (public notice portal, 1 October).
- Both A127 slip roads at Noak Hill Road, eastbound, for four nights from 19 October, 19:00 to 04:00, for cable fault repairs.
- Coxes Farm Road again, 60 metres about 370 metres north east of Southend Road, for four days of Openreach cabling from 19 October.
- Langham Crescent in Great Burstead and South Green, its full 650 metre circuit, for 98 days from 19 October while Cadent replaces gas mains, with no alternative route; Crays View follows for 35 days from 4 January 2027.
- Willowfield in Laindon for one night on 22 October, and Potash Road in Billericay for seven days of UK Power Networks work from 22 October (public notice portal, 24 September).
- Elizabeth Drive in Wickford for nine days from 26 October, Burnt Mills Road for four days from 27 October, Gardiners Lane North in Billericay for a day on 27 October and Kennel Lane in Great Burstead for seven days from 28 October (public notice portal, 1 October).
A month of 40mph on the A13 through Vange and Pitsea
This is the one most drivers in the borough will notice, and it was not in any press release. Essex County Council has made an order introducing a temporary 40mph speed restriction on the A13 Vange Bypass and Pitsea Bypass in both directions, running 4,645 metres from the Five Bells roundabout on-slip to the A13 underpass.
It was scheduled to start on Thursday 1 October and to run for 31 days, so to Saturday 31 October, and the reason given is surveying work by the county council under permit EP20180668426 (public notice portal, 17 September). As with every Essex notice, the dates can move, with signs on the day and updates on one.network. The eastbound night closures from 19 October, listed above, fall inside the same month.
Rolling orders with no dates attached
Separately from the table above, Essex County Council keeps taking out rolling orders over borough roads. Each one lets the council shut the roads it lists in phases over up to 18 months, and none of them names a single date. The notices say the dates will appear on one.network instead, and that residents get a letter or leaflet drop and advance warning signs before each phase. These are the ones we have read, with the roads each one covers:
- No. 16, the newest, advertised on 1 October to take effect on 8 October as an order the council intends to make. It covers Long Riding from Timberlog Lane (745 metres), Southernhay between Broadmayne and Long Riding, Great Oaks and Linkway in the town centre (no diversion on either), the A1235 Cranes Farm Road between Upper Mayne Roundabout and Chester Hall Lane Roundabout, Miles Gray Road, High Street, Billericay from Norsey Road to London Road, and Salcott Crescent and Mersea Crescent in Wickford. It also allows a temporary 40mph limit from the A13 underpass along Canvey Way towards the Rayleigh Spur roundabout, a banned left turn at Upper Mayne, a banned right turn on Cranes Farm Road, and suspension of the Long Riding bus gate (public notice portal, 1 October).
- No. 15, advertised on 24 September, effective 1 October: Laindon Link from the roundabout to the start of the bus gate, about 405 metres, plus short lengths of Mellow Purgess Close and Monastery Road, with the Laindon Link bus gate suspended during each closure (public notice portal, 24 September).
- No. 6, shared with Rochford district, effective 3 September: the A127 Southend Arterial Road from Nevendon Road to the A1245, about 5,520 metres, plus the eastbound on slip at Fairglen Interchange, and London Hill, Church Street and Bellingham Lane in Rayleigh.
- No. 9, from 30 July: phased closures on the A130 and A13 at Bowers Gifford.
- No. 10, from 30 July: Stock Road, The Knares and Bromfords Drive.
- No. 11, effective 27 August: Laindon Link, Mellow Purgess Close and Monastery Road, the earlier order over the same roads as No. 15.
- No. 12, effective 3 September: the A127 slip roads at West Mayne and Nevendon, six of them, plus the Southend Arterial Road between the A127 off slip and the A132 at Nevendon and Ramsden Crays.
- No. 13, effective 10 September: Botney Hill Road at Little Burstead, 1,460 metres from Blind Lane to Tye Common Road, and Clay Hill Road in Basildon, 2,045 metres from Southernhay to Timberlog Lane.
- Streetworks SW13, effective 24 September: carriageway resurfacing on the A130 New Bypass at Bowers Gifford and on through Rawreth, Shotgate and Rettendon, about 5,255 metres southbound and 5,510 metres northbound, with the A1245 and A132 as the signed alternatives. The notice, repeated in the 1 October bundle, still says only that the works start after 24 September, with exact dates on one.network (public notice portal, 1 October).
Two of the older orders also introduce banned left turns, again with no dates. No. 12 bans the left turn from West Mayne into the A127 westbound slip road at Dunton Roundabout. No. 6 bans the left turn from Nevendon Road Bypass onto the A127 and from Chelmsford Road onto the A127. These apply only while the closure phases they belong to are in force, so the signs on the day are the only reliable guide.
One more rolling order is not a Basildon borough one, but its diversion comes through Billericay. Essex County Council’s Brentwood borough No. 10 order, effective 9 September, allows phased closures of Billericay Road at Herongate, about four miles west of Billericay in Brentwood borough, over 2,350 metres between Brentwood Road and Blind Lane. The signed alternative runs via the A128, Running Waters, Pondfield Lane, Hanging Hill Lane, the A129 and Tye Common Road (public notice portal, 16 September).
Two parking changes you can still object to
- By 9 October: the A129 Southend Road zigzags. Essex County Council proposes to remove 17 metres of zigzag markings on the south side of the A129 Southend Road, from a point about 25 metres east of Grange Road, and to extend the “no waiting at any time” restriction over that length instead. Objections quoting reference TRAF/8958 go to TrafficRegulation.Order@essexhighways.org by 9 October 2026, and the drawings are on the Essex Highways traffic regulation orders page.
- By 20 October: Tye Common Road, Dry Street and Dordells. The proposed Amendment No. 55 order would put “no waiting at any time” lines on sections of Tye Common Road in Billericay and at its junctions with Cherry Trees and Tyelands, extend the 24-hour clearway on Dry Street for 135 metres south west of Clark Street, and replace a permit bay in Dordells with two disabled permit bays. Objections go to the South Essex Parking Partnership at Chelmsford City Council, trafficreg@chelmsford.gov.uk, by 20 October 2026 (public notice portal, 28 September).
Rail: the amended c2c timetable has run out, and nothing has replaced it
c2c at Basildon, Laindon and Pitsea
c2c has been running an amended timetable since 25 August because Network Rail imposed multiple speed restrictions across its network. The prolonged dry weather shrank the clay under the track, the track dropped and became uneven, and the restrictions followed (Network Rail, 24 August). We set out what that means from each of the five borough stations in our story on the slower timetables.
Today is the first day the published timetable does not cover, and there is still no answer. The industry’s live record is still open, was last updated at 08:28 on Monday 14 September, and still reads (National Rail Enquiries):
- Journey planners hold the amended timetable up to and including Friday 2 October. In National Rail’s words, “it is not yet known what service will look for c2c on Saturday 3 October and beyond”.
- Trains towards London leave earlier than the old timetable. Services from Shoeburyness, Upminster, Pitsea and Grays depart at least six minutes earlier than normal, and services from London arriving at stations between Upminster and Shoeburyness arrive at least six minutes later.
- Your c2c ticket is valid on Greater Anglia between London Liverpool Street and Southend Victoria in both directions, at no extra cost, while this lasts.
c2c’s own article on the change, last updated on 11 September, gives no end date either, saying only that the restrictions stay “until the ground conditions have recovered” (c2c). Check a journey planner on the day rather than relying on a printed time.
Sunday 4 October: no trains between Basildon and Leigh-on-Sea
Buses replace trains between Basildon and Leigh-on-Sea and between Stanford-le-Hope and Pitsea all day on Sunday 4 October, and a shuttle train runs between Leigh-on-Sea and Shoeburyness (National Rail). Last week c2c’s own calendar entry for the same day said rail replacement ran all the way from Basildon to Shoeburyness; National Rail’s page still says a shuttle train covers Leigh-on-Sea to Shoeburyness.
What we could not confirm today. c2c’s service alterations calendar is drawn in a widget we could not read on this visit, so the later c2c entries this page carried last week, late-evening diversions to Liverpool Street on 5 and 7 October and the Fenchurch Street diversion on Sunday 11 October, are not repeated here. National Rail’s engineering works index lists nothing for c2c beyond Sunday. Check the c2c service alterations calendar before travelling late in the evening this week.
Greater Anglia at Billericay and Wickford
The branch from Wickford out to Southminster is still running normally. National Rail closed the defective track incident at 02:07 on Monday 14 September with the line: “Trains are now able to run as scheduled between Wickford and Southminster following emergency engineering work” (National Rail Enquiries).
Two dated items are published for the Billericay and Wickford line, both on Sundays:
- Sunday 11 October and Sunday 18 October: until 09:45, and from 23:05 to the end of service, journey times between Shenfield and London Liverpool Street are extended by up to 15 minutes and trains depart up to 15 minutes earlier than usual, because Greater Anglia shares the remaining open lines with the Elizabeth line (11 October, 18 October). Every Billericay and Wickford train into London runs over that stretch.
Greater Anglia’s own service alterations page publishes no dates, only a pointer to its booking engine, so the absence of a Greater Anglia item there is not evidence that nothing is planned. Everything above comes from National Rail’s own pages instead.
The Wickford derailment
The 14 August derailment at Wickford is closed as an incident and open as an investigation. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch announced on 28 August that it is investigating the state of the track, how it was maintained, and how effective the industry’s hot-weather measures were (RAIB, 28 August). Our full report is here.
The A127 and A13: two big schemes, neither of them started
Most journeys out of the borough use one of these two roads, and both have a major improvement scheme attached that has not begun.
Fairglen Interchange: £59.2m committed, no start date
The A127 meets the A130 and A1245 at the Fairglen Interchange, at the Wickford and Rayleigh end of the borough, and it is the worst pinch point on any journey east. The scheme to fix it would build a new Southend Link Road letting drivers reach the A127 and Southend without going round the Rayleigh Spur roundabout, widen the slip roads, signalise the roundabouts, add a southbound lane and put in a pedestrian and cycle bridge south of the roundabout.
The money is committed: £38 million from Essex County Council, £15 million from the Department for Transport announced in February 2025, and £6.2 million from the South East Local Enterprise Partnership, or £59.2 million in total. A preferred contractor has been selected. But Essex County Council says “a number of complex issues are taking longer to resolve than anticipated, impacting the start date for the works on site”, and publishes no start date at all (Essex Highways).
What it means for you: do not plan around Fairglen improving. The junction will behave in 2027 exactly as it does now, and the design it is eventually built to was drawn for traffic levels up to 2036.
A127 Transport Improvements: still waiting on the Department for Transport
The separate A127 Transport Improvements scheme would realign the carriageway at the Fortune of War junction and add an extra eastbound lane between the Halfway House and Dunton junctions, with walking, cycling and bus stop improvements along the corridor. Essex County Council submitted a Strategic Outline Case to the Department for Transport’s Major Road Network fund in June 2024 and is still awaiting a decision on whether it can move to the next stage (Essex Highways). Public consultation, an outline business case, a planning application and a full business case all come after that decision, so construction is years away.
A13 westbound: finished
The resurfacing on the A13 westbound between the Pitsea flyover and the Five Bells roundabout is done. It ran over 14 nights in May 2026 with 21:00 to 05:00 closures, and Essex Highways confirmed completion on 2 June 2026 (Essex Highways). If you avoided that stretch overnight in May, you can stop.
Parking: the borough’s split personality
Here is the thing that surprises people who move here. Basildon Borough Council does not run a single car park in Basildon town centre. Its pay and display car parks are all in Billericay and Wickford. Basildon’s own town centre car parks, including Westgate Shopping Centre and the Great Oaks multi-storey, are privately managed, so their prices are set by their operators rather than by the council (Basildon Borough Council).
These are the council’s tariffs, which are the ones the council can and does change:
| Car park | Monday to Friday | Saturday and Sunday |
|---|---|---|
| Billericay High Street (rear of Iceland, CM12 9AT) | £1.20 up to 1hr, £1.80 up to 2hrs, £3.70 up to 4hrs, 08:00 to 18:00 | Free, maximum stay 4 hours |
| Billericay Radford Crescent (opposite the station, CM12 0DR) | £3.70 up to 4hrs, £8.50 all day, 09:15 to 18:00 | Free |
| Billericay Lake Meadows (off Radford Crescent, CM12 0DT) | £1.20 up to 1hr, £1.80 up to 2hrs, £3.70 up to 4hrs, 08:00 to 18:00 | Free |
| Wickford Main (High Street to railway line, SS12 9AJ) | £1.20 up to 1hr, £1.80 up to 2hrs, £3.70 up to 4hrs, £8.50 all day, 08:00 to 18:00 | Free |
| Wickford Ladygate (SS12 9AJ) | 80p up to 30min, £1.20 up to 1hr, £1.80 up to 2hrs, £3.70 up to 4hrs, 08:00 to 18:00 | Free, maximum stay 4 hours |
| Wickford Swimming Pool (SS12 0AD) | £1.20 up to 1hr, £1.80 up to 2hrs, £3.70 up to 4hrs, 08:00 to 18:00, every day | As weekdays, maximum stay 4 hours |
Three practical points from the council’s own terms:
- Free weekend parking is new. From April 2026 the council introduced four hours of free parking at several sites on Saturdays and Sundays. Where a maximum stay applies there is no return within two hours.
- Every council car park is cashless and ticketless. You pay at the terminal or through the MiPermit app; there is no coin slot and no windscreen ticket, and meter feeding is not allowed.
- Blue badge holders park free for up to three hours in every council car park, with no return within two hours, displaying a valid badge and clock. Motorcycles are welcome in any marked bay. Vehicles over two tonnes are not allowed, except coaches at Lake Meadows and the Wickford pool car park.
Outside the charging hours listed above, all six car parks are free. Radford Crescent is the exception worth remembering, because the barrier means you cannot get in after 18:00.
Bus gates: four cameras in Basildon
Essex County Council enforces bus lanes and bus gates by camera at four locations inside Basildon: Ghyllgrove, Laindon Link, Long Riding and Southernhay. All four are in the new town’s road network rather than in Billericay or Wickford, and all four catch drivers who are following a satnav rather than the signs.
Essex Highways publishes the traffic regulation order and photographs of the approach from each direction for every location, which is worth looking at before you drive an unfamiliar route through Basildon, and is the first thing to check if a penalty charge notice arrives.
Two of the four can now be switched off during roadworks. Since 27 August, Essex County Council’s order for Laindon Link has been able to temporarily suspend the bus gate there, as set out in the Essex County Council (Laindon Link, Basildon) (Bus Gate) Order 2020, but only for the duration of each roadworks closure. A temporary “No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping” restriction applies on both sides of the carriageway while those closures are in place, and signs will show when it is in force (public notice portal, 20 August). A fresh order over the same roads, No. 15, was advertised on 24 September to take effect on 1 October, again suspending the gate only during each closure.
Long Riding is next. The No. 16 order, advertised on 1 October as one the council intends to make from 8 October, would allow the Long Riding bus gate to be suspended in the same way, alongside phased closures of Long Riding, Southernhay, Great Oaks and Linkway (public notice portal, 1 October). Separately, the 12-day patching closure of Long Riding from 12 October runs from South Riding “to the bus gate”, with the bus gate itself listed as bus only on the signed route.
None of these suspensions is permanent or continuous. Outside the closure phases the cameras enforce as normal, so treat the signs on the day as the only reliable guide, and do not assume a gate is open because it was open last week.
Getting around without driving
- Trains. Five stations, two lines, and a fare gap of over £1,100 a year between them. Our Basildon trains to London page has the times, fares and last trains from all five.
- Station parking. Radford Crescent in Billericay is the borough’s council-run station car park at £8.50 all day, free at weekends. Wickford Main, next to the railway line, is also £8.50 all day.
- Reporting a problem. Potholes, broken street lights and blocked drains on the highway are Essex County Council’s, not the borough council’s. Report them through Essex Highways.
Frequently asked questions
What roads are closed in Basildon now?
As of Sunday 4 October 2026, none of the dated road closure notices we read for the borough falls on this weekend. From Monday 5 October, Basildon Council has lane closures on Upper Mayne for tree and verge work, moving to Broadmayne, Southernhay, East Mayne and South Mayne until 13 November. Footpath 23 in Billericay is shut until 1 April 2027, and the A13 Vange Bypass and Pitsea Bypass are under a temporary 40mph limit in both directions until 31 October. Beambridge in Pitsea, Coxes Farm Road and Tye Common Road all reached the end of their notices by 2 October.
The next closures to start are:
- Appletree Way, Wickford, 5 and 6 October, for Openreach, with no alternative route
- Cranfield Park Road, Wickford, 5 to 9 October, at the A127 end, for Essex and Suffolk Water
- Wickford Avenue and Pitsea Road, Pitsea, overnight on 7 and 8 October, 19:00 to 04:00
- Wickford Avenue at Steeplehall, Pitsea, 12 to 16 October, for carriageway patching
- Long Riding, Barstable, 12 to 23 October, for carriageway patching
The full list, with the day each one is due to end and who is doing the work, is in the table above, and the later October closures, including eastbound night closures of the A13 Vange Bypass from 19 October, are listed under it.
Separately, Essex County Council rolling orders allow borough roads to be closed in phases for up to 18 months, including the A127 between Nevendon Road and the A1245, Cranes Farm Road, Billericay High Street and Clay Hill Road. No dates are published with any of them. Newer road closures appear first on the public notice portal.
Are the trains from Basildon back to normal?
Not as far as any published source says. c2c has run an amended timetable since 25 August because of speed restrictions caused by dried-out clay under the track, and it was only published as far as Friday 2 October. National Rail’s record, unchanged since 14 September, still says it is not yet known what the service will look like from Saturday 3 October, and c2c has given no end date. Your c2c ticket is valid on Greater Anglia between Liverpool Street and Southend Victoria while this lasts. On Sunday 4 October buses also replace trains between Basildon and Leigh-on-Sea.
Are the Wickford to Southminster trains running again?
Yes. The branch reopened on Monday 14 September. A speed restriction had been imposed on a section of defective track between the two stations on 2 September and an hourly replacement bus ran in place of the trains. National Rail closed the incident at 02:07 on 14 September, saying trains are “now able to run as scheduled between Wickford and Southminster following emergency engineering work”.
Is the Laindon Link bus gate being switched off?
Only in part. Essex County Council orders effective from 27 August and from 1 October allow the Laindon Link bus gate to be suspended, but only for the duration of each temporary closure under them, and those closures are phased over up to 18 months with no dates published in advance. Outside those phases the camera enforces as usual. A similar order for the Long Riding bus gate is due to take effect on 8 October. Follow the signs on the day.
When will the Fairglen Interchange work start?
There is no published start date. The full £59.2 million is committed and a preferred contractor has been selected, but Essex County Council says complex issues are still being resolved and has not set a date (Essex Highways).
Is parking free in Basildon at weekends?
In the council’s car parks in Billericay and Wickford, yes: from April 2026 they are free on Saturdays and Sundays, with a four-hour maximum stay at Billericay High Street, Wickford Ladygate and the Wickford pool car park. Basildon town centre car parks are privately run, so their weekend prices are set by their operators, not by the council.
How much is all-day parking in Billericay?
£8.50 at Radford Crescent, opposite Billericay station, Monday to Friday, with parking sessions only purchasable between 09:15 and 18:00 and no access after 18:00. It is free at weekends. Four hours costs £3.70.
Do I need coins for Basildon council car parks?
No. All six council car parks are cashless and ticketless. Pay at the terminal in the car park or through the MiPermit app.
Where are the bus gates in Basildon?
Essex County Council operates camera enforcement at Ghyllgrove, Laindon Link, Long Riding and Southernhay. Photographs of each approach and the traffic regulation order are published on Essex Highways’ page for each location, linked in the bus gates section above.
